Are you Ready for the Halloween Parties?

Friday, October 12, 2012

Since Halloween is just around the corner let's recap on the top 3 horror movies of 2012. You might get ideas on what to wear during the fabulous or even the not-so-fabulous-scary Halloween parties. It only comes once a year so why not make the most of it? Agree?

After the hype that has surrounded Paranormal Activity since 2007, it would be easy to think that the horror industry has placed all of its eggs in one basket in recent years, but don’t be fooled – there have been a number of brilliant releases in 2012 that are guaranteed to have you quivering behind the curtains
1. The Woman in Black
Daniel Radcliffe’s non-Potter debut hit the headlines this year as the novel-turned-play-turned-movie hit UK cinemas in February. Whilst critics had predicted a childish concoction of cheap thrills and Halloween costumes,
viewers were pleasantly surprised to find that director James Watkins pulled off a skilfully spooky silver screen spectacle. Playing a fledgling lawyer, Radcliffe explores an abandoned house that sits onan eerie marsh, with no-one for company except his dog and the ghost of the house’s ill-fated former resident. A surprisingly scary movie with broad appeal, this might not quite press the right buttons for seasoned horror fans but it’s certainly worth a watch nonetheless.

Fancy being the woman in black?

2. Sinister
Although the storyline might seem a little cliché – well, actually, it just is cliché – this spine-chilling bonanza looks set to take the box office by storm in the coming weeks. A crime novelist ponders the reasons why a family were murdered in his home and, consequently, ends up putting his own family’s fate in the balance. This movie has the potential to irritate hardcore horror fans but is certain to be a favourite among the masses.

How bout the sinister?

3. The Innkeepers
An ineffective marketing campaign meant that this film came and went with little attention – and what a shame that is. This is a brilliant horror movie, even for the most dedicated gore addict, and the nerve-wracking storyline
is complemented by some fantastic cinematography. Director Ti West really does bring this genre into the 21st century. Set in a run-down hotel, two employees notice a series of strange events in the lead-up to the hotel’s closure, before being forced to confront their deepest fears. With some truly commendable performances and a healthy dose of classic terror, this is definitely worth a watch.

Hmm. Crazy Innkeeper, perhaps?

Well I guess the key to finding the perfect Halloween costume is ultimately, preparation. Prepare weeks or even months before just to make sure you get the look that you're aiming for.
Goodluck on your Halloween Costume Quest!

Jess
